When I went on my first solo backpacking trip to Southeast Asia, I had so many questions:

How will I make friends?

How will I take photos of myself?

Wait, I’m going to eat alone too?

Should I reserve all my accommodation and activities in advance?

Am I making the right choice?

What did I sign myself up for?

Lavi this is great advice! Thanks for putting this out there. All my travel has always been done with my husband or friends. I’ve never actually traveled solo. I’d like to do a solo trip some day and your tip will help a lot!

I often have to travel alone and while it is empowering, it can be really intimidating too. What a great idea to put this together!!

I’m about to go on my biggest solo trip yet. It’s incredibly daunting, no matter how many ‘solo’ activities I do around the city, I don’t think they’ve prepared me for a day in, day out sort of experience. But go I must. I look forward to reading your tips – I’m sure they’ll squash some of my anxiety!

Where was your book when I went solo travelling?! It’s such an amazing experience, but you’re right, it can be daunting. I spent most of my first day in Thailand in my room on the internet until a power cut drove me outside. I’m so glad it did, because it ended up being the best year of my life, but it was hard for a start!
